Noida on high alert after blast outside Delhi court

NOIDA: The blast outside the Delhi high court has led to the city being put on high alert. Additional security forces have been deployed in and around all major MNCs, shopping malls and hotels where foreigners usually frequent. The local intelligence unit has also been put on alert. Cops have issued special guidelines, especially for foreigners living in or visiting the city, and for markets where footfall is high.

SP (city) Anant Deo Tiwari confirmed that additional forces and PAC have been deployed in and around malls, markets and hotels, according to the sensitivity of the area. "Considering the fact that many MNCs are there in the city, there are a lot of foreigners who reside here. We have asked all the offices to step up their security. Each suspicious activity is being shared with the control room. The security deployment could continue for a week. We want the general public to cooperate to keep the city safe and secure," said the SP.

Police checking of vehicles has been stepped up on the borders. The police have sent out advisories to malls, multiplexes, Noida film city offices, gas filling complexes and other places to take strict precautions against any possibility of terror strikes. The film city studios have been asked to ensure nobody enters offices without identification and that cars and two wheelers are not parked too close to the buildings.

The SP said, "There is checking of all vehicles at Delhi's borders. At sensitive places like malls, quick reaction teams (QRTs) have been formed on every floor. Every hour, they are doing a thorough check of the malls, including toilets and dust bins, randomly checking customers and using their hand-held detectors and specially surveying the floors on the CCTV footage. Even the car parking is being monitored."

Most of the MNCs and malls have already taken security measures at their own level following the instructions given by the police. "We have also instructed the chowkis at border areas to conduct proper checks," said a senior police official. Checking of vehicles is being conducted at all entry points to Noida, including Kalindi Kunj, sector 14 A, sector 11, Haridarshan Chowki, Model Town and NIB Chowki. "We are also in touch with the RWAs and market associations," the officer said.

              Salman Khan in trouble again

The actor may have unwittingly bought land which legally cannot be bought or sold as it belongs to the entire village.

On Thursday, more than 250 villagers gathered at the talathi's office in Panvel, protesting what they say is an illegal sale of their land to a political leader and actor Salman Khan.

The actor, who is embroiled in two other court cases, may be looking at a protracted legal battle again, because according to the rule book, buying or selling of land which belongs to any village is a cognisable offence.

The sleepy Vaje village near Panvel, home to 307 families, is putting up a spirited fight for 83 acres of surplus land they were given by the government to be tilled.

The Panch along with the villagers were joint custodians of this land till it was sold off to Congress leader Harbhans Singh and Salman. Villagers allege they were conned into parting with their land by the Panch, who convinced them that the alternative to selling was allowing the government to confiscate the land.

"The government gave the land to poor farmers for cultivation. Sometime back our Panch told us that government was planning to take the land back and in order to meet the expenses of putting up a fight, we need to sell a part of the land.
